S
upporting Families in Nechells Birmingham

The aim of the St. Joseph’s Community Project is to support families and young people, by developing their skills and abilities, co-ordinating key services, and addressing the high level of social deprivation in Nechells.

It will have a multi-faceted approach that seeks to unleash the innate capacity of the local community and build bridges between different segments of the community which are often isolated and not in relationship.

The Project has three key areas:

The development of Young People
Support for Parents
Community Support

Our Lady of the Rosary, Saltley.
Working towards Social Cohesion

The Saltley project aims to reduce the current ethnic and social polarisation of the area whilst tackling the general decay of this inner urban environment by developing a community based housing project for the area.

Working in partnership with other community focused organisations, the Saltley project envisions a more cohesive housing strategy which integrates affordable homes for sale and shared ownership alongside improved existing homes for rent so creating a mixed income, mixed tenure, multi-ethnic community.

St. Michael’s, West Bromwich.
Reaching the Community

St. Michael’s has access through its members and central location to sections of society that other agencies and programmes find hard to reach. The aim of the Project is to break down the barriers between communities, by reaching out to people new to the area.

St. Michael’s places its resources at the disposal of the wider community, with a focus on developing activities and services that meet the social and spiritual needs of local people.

The St. Michael’s Project leadership team gains much of its strength through close association with the Deanery, who are actively supporting the development of the Project.
